Maintenance of Trailers

Category: Trailers,
Posted Date: Apr 21, 2015

A lot of importance is given to how to choose a trailer, what brand to go for and how to add more safety features on it. But it is the maintenance of these unpowered vehicles that determine their durability and performance. Usually used for carrying heavy supplies over long distances, Used Refrigerated Trailers should be maintained properly to get long lasting services out of it. Here are some tips on how to maintain your trailer during set up and when it is on road.

Set-up
During setup of a trailer, it is not the only thing that is inspected. Proper attention should also be given to the tow vehicle where it supposed to be hitched. The tow vehicle is supposed to be bigger and heavier than the trailer so it could tolerate its weight, which makes it safer to drive. The vehicle is also supposed to have a proper hitch for hooking it up, and have bars that improve its handling and cornering aspects. There should always be a spare battery charged and properly maintained in the trailer.

On-road Maintenance
There are 3 components that are essential to trailer and truck management when thinking of on road service.

  • Tire: Tire pressure should be checked regularly or at least after and before every trip. If it is under-inflated, there is a major chance of it blowing out when being driven on the road.
  • Floor: Used Refrigerated Trailers are usually covered with mats. These mats should be lifted and underside cleaned thoroughly and sprayed with pesticides.
  • Brakes: Brakes of a system can wear out; hence they should be regularly inspected and repaired in case of any damage.

There are Refrigerated Trucks for Sale in UK that have electric brake controllers that provide efficient braking when needed and lights for night visibility.

Used Refrigerated Trailers if maintained properly can treat you with a great life and many miles on the road.
